Though Hans am Ende could enter most effectively into the romantic symbolist style of landscape (see adjacent – ‘Das Grab des Hannibal’ – ‘Hannibal’s Grave’), this particular etching is a more gentle and tranquil scene from the Worspswede area in which he lived so happily with his wife.
