A number of works by the artist were in the collection of Countess Spencer, which was sold by Christie’s in 2017.

Vera Willoughby (whose interesting biography can be clicked on below) had considerable breath in her subject matter. The subject of this painting and the idiosyncratic art deco imagery of the figures, immediately show it to be in the style of her oriental and mythological series of paintings, some of which were reproduced in her own, passionately written book, ‘A Vision of Greece’ (1925)
