Made in the lifetimes of both Watts and Burne-Jones by photogravure, a method of intaglio printing popular at the time which adds its own distinct and attractive character to a photographed image. The image reproduced here for the website cannot do justice to the actual clarity of line and tone that is a product of the photogravure technique.
The print is made from a photograph by Frederick Hollyer who was the principal art photographer of the day.
