A popular, action packed theme for artists, taken from the Greek myth. The river nymph Daphne, fleeing from the unwanted amorous pursuit of Apollo is saved, but only be being changed by her river god father, Peneus, into a laurel tree. This is a magnificent rendition of the scene.
