This is closely related to the Forest Symphony series (1919 ) of etchings. It is typical of the evocative quality that Broel gave to his many forest, woodland and landscape works. This one full of the mystery and expectation at the point of entering the dark forest. Broel was a painter, graphic artist and print maker with very distinctive subject matter. He spent most of his life in Munich and was a Member of the Munich artists’ cooperative.
